No. 14
No. 14 – Original Acrylic on Archival Paper by Erin McGrath Rieke
About this Artwork
I created No. 14 in 2018 as part of my Still I Rise series, a body of work rooted in emotional resilience, quiet strength, and reflection. This 8 x 10 inch original acrylic painting on archival paper explores the tension between restraint and emotion through, muted yellow tones, and subtle gesture.
As I worked on this piece, I was drawn to softness rather than force. I wanted the surface to feel emotionally alive while remaining quiet and restrained. Each brushstroke was placed deliberately, allowing movement and rhythm to emerge slowly through layering and repetition.
The muted yellows became symbolic of warmth, fragility, fading light, and memory. Though minimal in composition, the painting holds emotional tension between stillness and impermanence. For me, it reflects longing, contemplation, and the quiet endurance required to remain open through uncertainty.
I wanted the piece to feel intimate and meditative, revealing itself gradually through close attention and reflection.
