Untamed

Original Mixed Media Artwork on Archival Paper, 2024

About This Artwork

I created Untamed in 2024 using magazine clippings on archival paper. As I worked, a figure began to emerge from the layers. It felt familiar, vulnerable, and slightly unsettled, as though it was carrying more pressure than it could comfortably hold.

The piece explores the tension between who we are and the forces that shape us. Torn fragments, overlapping images, and shifting colors press inward from all directions, creating a sense of movement and compression. Rather than depicting a specific story, I was interested in capturing the feeling of being influenced, challenged, and changed by the world around us.

For me, Untamed exists in that uncertain space between holding together and coming apart. There is vulnerability in the work, but there is also resilience. Even as the layers compete for attention, the central presence remains.

Though modest in size, the piece contains a great deal of visual detail. The collage elements create depth and texture, inviting viewers to slow down and spend time discovering new relationships within the surface.

The Untamed Series explores transformation through repurposed materials. I use discarded fragments to create new visual narratives that examine identity, resilience, memory, and change. Each piece is one of a kind and reflects my ongoing interest in how something broken apart can be reassembled into something entirely new.
