About This Artwork
I created Enlightenment in 2021 as part of my Lotus Project. The piece began with a question about clarity and how briefly it sometimes appears, particularly in the middle of emotional noise.
I worked intuitively with pastel, acrylic, and ink, following gesture before meaning. Figures began to emerge across the paper. They bend, reach, and rise as if responding to something beyond the edge of the composition. Their movement holds the tension between struggle and perseverance, between feeling lost and recognizing the first small sign of understanding.
Fragments of handwritten script move through the figures like thoughts arriving before language has fully formed. Some marks interrupt the bodies. Others seem to hold them in place. Together, image and text create a private conversation between memory, mind, and physical experience.
Enlightenment is not about achieving certainty. It occupies the quieter threshold where confusion and awareness overlap, and insight has only begun to surface.
