About This Artwork
Evidence of a Person considers what remains visible when identity begins to blur beneath memory, expectation, and time. A face emerges from a weathered field of gray, rust, brown, and muted blue. It is recognizable, but never entirely resolved.
I built the portrait through layered mixed media, allowing areas of the figure to gather weight while others recede into the surface. Flecks of color surround the face like residue. They suggest history without explaining it.
There is a quiet confrontation in the figure’s expression. The face does not ask to be understood. It simply persists, holding its place amid erosion and abstraction.
The title speaks to the fragile traces through which a life becomes known. A glance. A mark. The outline of a body. The emotional imprint left behind after certainty has disappeared.

Evidence of a Person occupies the uncertain space between portrait and abstraction. The figure is present, yet its boundaries remain permeable. Face and background appear to exchange pieces of one another.
Viewed from a distance, the portrait gathers into human form. Up close, that certainty breaks apart into texture, scattered pigment, and imperfect marks. The person remains, not despite that fragmentation, but through it.
