About This Artwork
I created Exposed in 2021 as part of my Still I Rise series, which explores resilience, identity, and the ways we reclaim ourselves through change.
A fragmented female form emerges from layers of upcycled paper and mixed media. The figure is deliberately reduced and anonymous, asking what it means to be seen, exposed, or defined by someone else’s gaze. Its vulnerability is present, but so is a quiet insistence on autonomy.
Acrylic, ink, pen, pastel, and oil build a tactile surface where gesture and material carry as much meaning as the figure itself. The marks hold tension between visibility and privacy, objectification and self-possession. Rather than offering a single answer, Exposed leaves room for the viewer to consider who gets to shape the meaning of a body.
