"Facade" Original Hand Drawn Pastel on Paper 11Hx14Wx1.5D by Erin McGrath Rieke
ABOUT
Facade (2018) is an original pastel on archival paper by Erin McGrath Rieke that presents the abstract suggestion of a woman rendered with soft, delicate strokes. At first glance, she may appear beautiful, even whole. But the title, Facade, invites a deeper read: a quiet unraveling of surface-level assumptions, revealing the tension between what is shown and what is suppressed. In this work, McGrath Rieke challenges the viewer to question the illusion of beauty and the emotional architecture women are often expected to construct just to survive.
