Ghost of a Chance – Original Large-Scale Abstract Collector Painting by Erin McGrath Rieke
About This Artwork
Ghost of a Chance is a large-scale abstract painting exploring the uncertain space between disappearance and arrival. I built the painting through repeated vertical movement, allowing the material to guide the composition. Some marks remain dense and deliberate. Others thin, fracture, or fade before reaching the edge.
The title speaks to possibility when certainty is unavailable. The painting holds the threshold between heaviness and release, suggesting that even the faintest opening may be enough to continue.

Additional Information
From across the room, the vertical forms create a restrained rhythm. At closer range, variations in opacity, color, and material become more visible.
Ghost of a Chance reflects my interest in abstraction as a place for experiences that resist direct language. Its stillness is not empty. It contains pressure, awareness, and the quiet possibility of movement.
