Inside My Soul – Original Abstract Acrylic Painting by Erin McGrath Rieke

About this Artwork

Inside My Soul is a large-scale original abstract acrylic painting created in 2010. The work explores the quiet terrain of the inner world, where memory, emotion, and reflection intersect in ways that are often difficult to articulate.

Soft, atmospheric layers of blue, gray, and creamy white move across the canvas in a dreamlike haze. The composition suggests the feeling of wandering through a distant landscape. Some viewers see the suggestion of a forest path. Others experience it as a shifting emotional horizon. The imagery remains intentionally open, allowing the viewer to enter the painting with their own memories and associations.

While creating this work, I was interested in the idea of interior space. The unseen landscapes we carry within us. The places we revisit when we sit quietly with ourselves. The brushwork moves slowly across the canvas, building subtle depth and movement, like drifting through fog or memory.

For me, Inside My Soul became a meditation on vulnerability and stillness. It reflects the experience of walking through the shaded corridors of one’s inner life, where reflection and quiet searching often reveal truths that are difficult to see in the noise of the outside world.

The painting stands as an exploration of emotional landscape, introspection, and the layered complexity of the human psyche.

Original works by Erin McGrath Rieke are collected for their layered abstraction, atmospheric compositions, and deeply personal visual language.

This work is part of Erin McGrath Rieke’s continuing exploration of abstract painting as a language for expressing inner psychological landscapes. Her work often investigates themes of emotional resilience, memory, and the shifting internal spaces that shape personal identity.

Through layered color fields and gestural movement, Rieke creates abstract environments that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with their own interior narratives. The atmospheric palette of blues and soft neutrals in Inside My Soul evokes calm, contemplation, and the quiet complexity of emotional experience.

Although this original painting is now held in a private collection, it remains an important piece within the evolution of the artist’s body of work, representing an early exploration of the emotional abstraction that continues to influence her later paintings and multidisciplinary projects.
