About This Artwork
I created Neither of Us Was There in 2023 as part of my Turbulence Behind Tranquility series. The work portrays two people occupying the same space while remaining unreachable to one another.
The figures emerge through layered, partially obscured marks. Their faces seem to gather and dissolve at once, as though neither person can remain entirely present. Physical closeness offers no protection from emotional distance.
This is the particular loneliness of shared silence. Depression, trauma, and exhaustion can pull people inward until connection feels inaccessible. No one has necessarily left, yet the room has become empty.
Neither of Us Was There holds that absence without assigning blame. Both figures remain visible. Both are disappearing. Between them lies the distance neither knows how to cross.
