About This Artwork
I created Risk in 2010 as part of my Lotus Project. The drawing began with color and movement: hot pink rising through the paper, yellow and orange gathering around a dark, branching form.
The shape near the center can be read as an eye, a tree, or something caught between the two. Lines reach upward and outward while the surrounding colors seem to pulse against them. I wanted the image to remain open enough that its meaning could shift with the person looking at it.
To risk something is to look beyond what is familiar without knowing what will appear. Risk holds that unsettled energy. It is vivid, watchful, and still becoming.
