About This Artwork
I created River, No. Two in 2019 as part of my River Series. It began during the 50th birthday celebration of my friend and gender-violence-awareness partner, Rachel Ebeling. As family, friends, and community gathered to honor her, I painted in response to the energy of the room and the memories people shared.
I returned to the canvas in the studio, adding layers and shaping the movement that had begun that evening. Flowing acrylic marks suggest passage and change, holding a sense of momentum while leaving space for quieter reflection.
This painting is a tribute to Rachel’s strength, compassion, and commitment to supporting survivors. It carries the meaning of that celebration and the shared purpose that continues to connect us.
