Spring Fever – Original Framed Pastel Artwork on Paper by Erin McGrath Rieke
About This Artwork
I created Spring Fever in 2021 as part of The Lotus Project. The work grew from the peculiar restlessness that arrives when winter begins to loosen its hold and the world feels suddenly full of movement.
Spring carries contradiction. It is soft light and unsettled weather. New growth pushes through ground that still remembers frost. The season offers renewal, but it also awakens everything that has been waiting beneath the surface.
I worked intuitively with pastel, allowing gesture and pressure to guide the composition. Marks accumulated quickly, carrying the energy of emergence rather than the order of a predetermined image.
Spring Fever reflects that impatient threshold between dormancy and return. It is about the body recognizing change before the mind has caught up, and the urge to move toward life before knowing precisely where it will lead.
