About This Artwork
I created Still Beside You in 2023 as part of my Turbulence Behind Tranquility series. The work explores what it means to remain beside someone through depression, trauma, withdrawal, and uncertainty.
Two figures share the composition, but their connection is neither simple nor complete. Expressive marks soften their boundaries. They stand near one another while each seems occupied by a private distance.
The title carries devotion and sorrow in equal measure. Remaining beside someone is not the same as being able to rescue them. Love does not always arrive as a solution. Sometimes it exists through endurance, tenderness, and the quiet decision not to leave when another person has become difficult to reach.
Still Beside You honors that form of companionship while acknowledging its loneliness. Presence cannot cure every wound, but it can become its own kind of promise.
