Tango
Tango
Original Acrylic and Oil Painting on Canvas, 2015
About This Artwork
I created Tango in 2015 as part of my Let It Be series, a body of work that explored what happens when I stop trying to control the outcome and allow the painting to lead the way.
Working primarily in black and cream, I focused on movement, contrast, and intuition. Layers of paint interact with one another through sweeping gestures and textured passages, creating a composition that feels both structured and fluid. As with much of my work from this period, I was interested in the space between certainty and uncertainty, where unexpected forms emerge and meaning develops through the process itself.
The title Tango reflects the sense of movement and relationship within the painting. There is a push and pull between the elements, moments of tension and moments of harmony, much like a conversation or dance.
Though abstract, the piece is rooted in emotion and experience. Rather than telling a specific story, it invites viewers to bring their own interpretations and connections to the work.
Its 12 x 12 inch format gives the painting an intimate presence while allowing the movement within the composition to remain the focal point.

The Let It Be series emerged from a period of exploration, experimentation, and trust in the creative process. These paintings embrace movement, spontaneity, and emotional expression, allowing each piece to develop organically rather than through a predetermined plan. Every work in the series is unique and reflects a particular moment in that ongoing conversation between artist, material, and intuition.
