The Age of Obscurity
The Age of Obscurity – Original Mixed Media Abstract Painting by Erin McGrath Rieke
About this Artwork
I created The Age of Obscurity in 2024 through a process of layering paint, texture, and mixed media materials over time. Rather than working toward a predetermined image, I allowed the painting to evolve intuitively, responding to each layer as it emerged.
As the work developed, it became an exploration of memory, perception, and emotional complexity. The textured surface, shifting forms, and abstract composition reflect the ways our experiences are often fragmented, layered, and difficult to fully understand.
The Age of Obscurity invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover their own meaning within the work. For me, it became a meditation on what remains hidden beneath the surface and the tension between uncertainty and understanding.
