About This Artwork
I created The Center Remains in 2024 as part of my Untamed series, using magazine clippings on archival paper. As I worked, a figure began to emerge from the layers. It felt familiar and vulnerable, as though it were carrying more pressure than it could comfortably hold.
Torn fragments, overlapping images, and shifting colors press inward from different directions. Their movement creates a sense of compression and change. I was interested in the tension between who we are and the forces that shape us, without tying the figure to one fixed story.
For me, the work occupies the space between holding together and coming apart. The layers compete for attention, but the central presence remains. Vulnerability and resilience exist together in the image.
