The Chaos That Followed Me Home is an original acrylic paint pen work created in 2026 as a new addition to my Turbulence Behind Tranquility project. The painting emerged after a seven-hour experience in the emergency room following what was described to me as a “silent heart attack.”
Although I eventually left the hospital, the experience did not remain there. The crowded waiting room, fluorescent lights, medical alarms, bodies slumped beneath hospital blankets, beds lining the hallways, and the constant uncertainty followed me home as physical and emotional residue.
Bright color and chaotic movement fill the paper, reflecting a nervous system that had not yet recognized the emergency was over. Repeated marks overlap, collide, and compete for space. Rather than depicting the hospital literally, the painting translates the experience into color, motion, and instinct.
The work developed through my creative meditation practice as a way of processing the anxiety and sensory overload that remained after discharge. Creating it became a means of giving shape to what could not be easily explained.
The title, The Chaos That Followed Me Home, reflects the way traumatic experiences often continue beyond the moment of danger. The body leaves, but the noise remains. The painting holds that lingering activation while also marking the beginning of release.

Created after seven hours in an emergency room, the work reflects the crowded hallways, fluorescent lighting, restless movement, fear, and uncertainty that remained with me after I returned home.
The intense palette heightens the emotional tension of the piece. Bright colors overlap and scatter across the paper, creating a surface that feels fragmented, overstimulated, and difficult to contain. The image captures the moment after an emergency when the immediate threat may have passed, but the body remains alert.
As a new work within Turbulence Behind Tranquility, the painting expands the series beyond the invisible realities of psychiatric illness and trauma to include physical vulnerability, medical crisis, and the nervous system’s response to fear.
The work considers how chaos can become internalized. It asks what happens when we return to familiar surroundings but remain psychologically suspended inside the experience we have just survived.
As with much of my work, The Chaos That Followed Me Home leaves room for personal interpretation, inviting viewers to bring their own memories of fear, uncertainty, endurance, and recovery to the piece.
