About This Artwork
The Splendor of Coming Apart is an original acrylic work on archival paper from my Turbulence Behind Tranquility project. It explores the unexpected beauty that can appear when the structures holding us together begin to rupture.
Black acrylic scatters across white paper in marks that resemble ash, distant constellations, or fragments released by force. The irregularly cut paper adds another edge of uncertainty. Even the shape of the work refuses perfect order.
Coming apart is usually spoken of as failure. Yet rupture can expose what was hidden beneath endurance. It can create space where there was none. The breaking is painful, but it may also be the first visible evidence that something has begun to change.
The title holds this contradiction. Splendor rarely accompanies unraveling, but beauty sometimes appears in what remains after certainty has fallen away.
