Visible Only in My Vanishing is an original acrylic work from my Turbulence Behind Tranquility series. Thick black paint moves across archival paper, examining the uneasy experience of becoming most visible at the moment the self begins to disappear.
The layered acrylic creates an irregular, relief-like surface. Ridges gather light and then lose it as the viewer moves. Forms emerge briefly before retreating into shadow. A face may be present within the darkness, though it never resolves completely.
The work considers the contradiction of wanting to be seen while needing to withdraw. Depression, trauma, and exhaustion can distort identity until presence feels uncertain. A person may still occupy the room while experiencing themselves as already absent from it.
Visible Only in My Vanishing remains deliberately unresolved. It asks whether disappearance can become its own form of visibility, and why suffering is sometimes recognized only after someone has begun to recede.
