ABOUT

When You’re My Age is a vibrant, highly textured abstract painting created by interdisciplinary activist artist Erin McGrath Rieke during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the world grappled with fear and isolation, Rieke turned to her art practice to process the uncertainty and emotional weight of the moment.

Blending a newly developed printmaking technique with her signature flow style, she created layered abstractions that reflect both chaos and clarity. The painting takes its name from the Lori McKenna song that played on repeat in her studio, echoing conversations with her college-aged children who had returned home, and grounding the work in themes of resilience, connection, and intergenerational hope.
