Words Matter is a small mixed media work on canvas from my Lost in Translation series, created during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using upcycled magazine fragments and layers of acrylic and tempera paint, I built a heavily textured surface to explore the weight of language and action. The piece became a meditation on human expression—the beauty and the burden of communication. In a time of profound isolation and global unrest, I crafted this seemingly vibrant work to draw viewers in, its visual allure contrasting with the deeper message beneath: beyond appearances, beyond the carefully curated facades we present, it is our words and deeds that truly shape the world. Words Matter invites reflection on the power of language—not just as a reflection of intent, but as a force carrying weight, consequences, and lasting impact.
