About This Artwork
I created Sisterhood in 2023 using acrylic paint, pages from vintage books, and fragments of musical scores on canvas. Printed words and notation remain visible through the painted surface. They sit beside bright passages of pink, red, teal, and blue, each layer adding to what came before it.
The forms near the center suggest two presences sharing a space. Their edges overlap and separate, held together by marks that move across the canvas. I was thinking about the stories we inherit from other women, and the ways we come to understand ourselves through closeness, difference, and change.
Sisterhood leaves those relationships open. It holds affection and complexity in the same composition, with no need to make one erase the other.
