ABOUT
Sisterhood (2023) is a 20x20 mixed media work on canvas that I created by interweaving acrylic paint with fragments of vintage novel pages and musical scores, building a layered and textural exploration of identity, kinship, and resilience. Through this interplay of color, text, and composition, I found myself questioning the evolving constructs of womanhood, motherhood, and sisterhood—examining the inherited narratives that shape these roles and the agency with which we redefine them. This piece became both a personal and collective inquiry for me: Do these bonds sustain and uplift us, or do we cling to them out of longing for something more? In its raw yet deliberate assemblage, Sisterhood serves as a vessel for reflection, inviting viewers to consider the tensions between tradition and transformation in the ongoing pursuit of solidarity and self-definition.
