Named for the ancient Greek goddess of the sea, Amphitrite’s Lair is a deep and immersive work from Erin McGrath Rieke, evoking the mystery and majesty of the ocean’s hidden realms. Painted during the late winter nights in the early days of Divinemoira Studio, this piece carries with it the mark of an unexpected alchemy: as temperatures dropped, the acrylics began to freeze mid-application, separating pigment and crystal in a way no brush could replicate.
The resulting surface shimmers with unexpected textures—glints of frozen blues echoing the movement of tides far below the surface. In this liminal space between control and surrender, Erin explored a conversation with the sea itself: What secrets does the deep keep? What voice rises from its darkest trenches?
An original piece rich in mythology and born of both elemental chance and artistic intention, Amphitrite’s Lair invites the viewer to pause, descend, and listen.

Erin McGrath Rieke (b. 1975) is an American interdisciplinary activist artist, writer and producer who uses creative expression to engage the public with social and political issues. Her body of work fuses art, culture and community participation to explore themes related to mental health, gender equality and education.
Notable accomplishments include: Still I Rise Campaign (2010-present), The Aria Rising Project (2014-2020),Turbulence Behind Tranquility (2014-2018), One Voice Project (2018), and Start Living (2019).
